Mangum Community Hospital Employs New Technology to Maximize Patient Safety
Mangum, Oklahoma (March 30, 2009) Mangum Community Hospital continues to put into operation advanced technology in an effort to provide the highest quality healthcare to Mangum and surrounding communities.
MCH has employed a complete medication management system which will improve both patient safety and staff efficiency. The system provides a closed loop process for medication management which includes numerous safety checks throughout the process. In addition, the nurses will utilize a medication cart which allows only one patient’s medication per drawer and only one drawer will open at a time when each patient’s barcode is scanned. The patient bar coding system allows each patient to wear a barcode around their wrist and only when that barcode is scanned by the nurse, will their individual medication drawer open. Each of the safety features ensures reduction in human error and increased accuracy in the handling of medications.
