Little River Healthcare System Announces Scholarship Recipients Rockdale, Texas (May 1, 2009) – One Rockdale, one Cameron, one Buckholts and two Thorndale applicants have each won a $5000 Little River Healthcare System college scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually to 5 individuals located in Milam County who are interested in continuing or pursuing a medical career. The 2009 Little River Healthcare Scholarship winners are Amy Brunson, McKenna Galbreath, Kaleigh Page, Steven Stolte and Lori Vrazel. The five winners competed with 31 candidates and were judged on academic achievement and potential, leadership ability, personal character, volunteerism and community service by members of the LRHS scholarship committee. Amy Brunson, a C.H. Yoe High School graduate is the daughter of David and Lynne Hornung. Amy resides in Cameron with her husband, Josh, and their two children. She has been very active volunteering at numerous medical facilities. Amy currently holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University and is currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Texas at Texas A&M University. McKenna Galbreth, a senior at Rockdale High School, is the daughter of Billy and Robin Galbreath. McKenna has been very active in both school and community activities. She has also been very successful in the Texas High School Rodeo Association, while graduating near the top of her class. McKenna will be attending Texas A&M University this fall, pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences. She plans to continue her education in medical school to become a doctor. Kaleigh Page, a 2007 graduate of Thorndale High School, is the daughter of Kenneth and Valerie Page. Kaleigh graduated at the top of her class and was a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, Volleyball, Basketball, Track and Cheerleading. Kaleigh is currently attending Tarleton State University where she was named to the Distinguished Students List and serves as a Residential Leader. Kaleigh plans on continuing her coursework to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Steven Stolte, a senior at Thorndale High School, is the son of Steven and Deborah Stolte. Steven has been very active in both his school and community, serving as class president and debate team captain. Steven will be attending The University of Texas at Austin pursuing a double major in biology and philosophy with a career goal in public health and disease research. Lori Vrazel, a C.H.Yoe High School graduate and Buckholts resident, is the daughter of Gary and Marlene Vrazel. Lori was very involved in school and community activities in high school and has continued volunteering in numerous community and health settings throughout her college years. Lori received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. “We applaud all of these recipients for their hard work and dedication to both their education and the healthcare profession.
