Little River Healthcare System Announces Scholarship Recipients

Rockdale, Texas (April 28, 2010) – The 2010 Little River Healthcare System (LRHS) College Scholarship has been awarded to Alyssa Fincher from Cameron, Preston Stolte from Thorndale and Andreana Gonzales, Kaitlyn Sieber and Michael Skrhak from Rockdale.  The LRHS College Scholarship is presented annually to five applicants located in Milam County interested in continuing their education and will be pursuing  a career in the healthcare field.

Among 27 applicants, these students were chosen by the members of the LRHS scholarship committee for their outstanding academic achievement, leadership ability, personal character, volunteerism and community service.

“Congratulations to the 2010 recipients of the Little River Healthcare System Scholarship,” said Jeremy Riney, Richards Memorial Hospital CEO. “It is very evident these students are driven in the pursuit and attainment of their academic and career goals within the healthcare field, and we wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.”

Alyssa Fincher, a C.H. Yoe High School senior, is the daughter of David and Ramona Fincher. Alyssa has been very active in school and community activities, serving as the president for both the Yoe Business Club and the Leo Club. She is interested in obtaining a degree in Communication Science and Disorders so that she may pursue a career in speech pathology.

Preston Stolte, a Thorndale High School graduate, is the son of Steven and Deborah Stolte. Preston was a recipient of the LRHS Scholarship in 2009.  He has demonstrated superior academic achievement in both high school, as well as his first year at the University of Texas at Austin. Preston is very interested in Public Health and is currently enrolled in two honors programs at UT.  His goal is to get into an M.D. Ph.D. dual degree graduate program.

Andreana Gonzales, daughter of Cynthia and Faustino Gonzales, is a Rockdale High School senior. She has been volunteering with organizations such as Mobil Loaves and Fishes for several years, and has participated in numerous school and community activities.  Andreana will be attending Texas A&M University next fall in pursuit of a degree in Biomedical Engineering.

Kaitlyn Sieber, a Rockdale High School Senior, is the daughter of Karen and Larry Sieber. She will be attending Texas A&M University in the fall with aspirations of going to medical school after obtaining her undergraduate degree and pursuing a career as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist.  Kaitlyn has not only volunteered with the Little River Healthcare System, but she has also been active in several school organizations as well.

Michael Skrhak is a Rockdale High School Graduate that currently resides in Rockdale with his wife and three children. Michael is currently attending Temple College and studying to receive his Registered Nurse License. Once he has obtained his degree in Nursing, Michael intends to continue his education with hopes of becoming a Nurse Practitioner.
