Little River Healthcare and Rockdale High School Join Forces to Educate Our Students

Rockdale, Texas (January 01, 2008) –As a vital part of our community, Little River Healthcare System is combining their resources to aid in the education of our local students.

Rockdale High School’s Athletic Training class recently spent two separate days touring the facilities of LRHS Rehabilitation, which houses both physical and occupational medicine, and LRHS Family Care Center and Radiology Department.  The LRHS staff enjoyed being able to provide such a service to our community.  “It is a blessing to have such state-of-the-art radiology equipment in a rural community like Rockdale and we enjoy being able to share it not only as a diagnostic tool for physicians and patients, but as a learning tool for the students of our community” stated Glenda Matysiak, Director of Radiology.

Henry Hawkins’ students spent one day with Physical Therapists, Stephen Christian and Debbie Hanel and Occupational Therapist Mona Butala and their staff touring and learning about Rehabilitation Services.  The students enjoyed hands-on learning and had the opportunity to ask questions regarding sports medicine.  The students traveled back to LRHS shortly after, to tour the Radiology Department.  Little River Healthcare System’s Radiology Department houses state-of-the-art imaging equipment, including a 64-slice CT machine.  The students again had the opportunity for hands-on learning and questions with a well-qualified staff.  They were able to view images from the different machines and get a fell for how the machines work and the different ways they are used for diagnosing injuries.

Athletic Training is often an elective that is not offered in schools the size of Rockdale High School and the imaging services at LRHS are rarely found in towns the size of Rockdale.  Rockdale is very fortunate to have such programs and services that can join forces to better the community.
