Capital Area Food Bank

"We make a living by what we do. But we make a life by what we give" This Winston Churchill quote is Blackhawk Cares motto. It speaks so true to our mission and how important it is for all of us to give back. And that's just what we did on one sunny day in early November.

Imagine a warehouse full of volunteers ready to give their time to a cause where in one afternoon 4,335 meals could be made. That is just what happened when several Blackhawk home office employees gave their time to serve at the Capital Area Food Bank. In one afternoon 5,418 pounds of food was cleaned, sorted and packaged by the volunteers in preparation for the distribution of the food within six days to various organizations and individuals in need.

Each of the volunteers settled into a spot along the assembly line where they worked towards getting to the bottom of a huge bin full of what seemed like a mountain of canned green beans, pork and beans, and many other food items. All the while smiling for the camera and enjoying the camaraderie of co-workers. “It was great to have an opportunity where in one afternoon of fellowship andFood Drive service we could help a cause that puts food on so many people’s table. It truly was a rewarding experience” said Lita Gonzales, Blackhawk Cares Event Coordinator.

For over 27 years the CAFB has serviced the Central Texas area in feeding thousands of people all throughout the year. Their mission is to, “nourish hungry people and lead the community in ending hunger.”
