Giving Back

In the spirit of giving back to the community, volunteers from Blackhawk Cares convened at Caritas of Austin on July 8th 2009 to aid in helping those less fortunate. Blackhawk Cares volunteers assisted the Caritas pantry that provides clients in crisis with take home groceries and the community kitchen that provides 400 lunches every weekday.

The volunteers’ main task was taking 50 pound bags of beans and rice and assembling them into one pound bags for easier distribution. After repackaging all beans and rice in the pantry, the teams spent the remainder of the afternoon performing needed clerical tasks.

The mission of Caritas is to provide a service continuum for those experiencing poverty that begins with a safety net and links them to resources to achieve self-sufficiency.  Blackhawk is proud to have aided Caritas in their mission.

Caritas at 611 Neches Street is always happy to receive any donations or volunteers. There are Volunteer Open Houses on the second Tuesday of each month with a morning session from 9:00 to 10:00 am and an evening session from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.
